Favorite Books of 2018

Since everyone else does one of these, here is mine! Before reading the list, I wanted to shout out a few honorable mentions: Children of Blood and Bone, Sadie, Grace and Fury, Mirage, From Twinkle, With Love and The Hazel Wood. Without further ado, I give you my best of 2018 book list.

10. Ash Princess

This rebel princess story drew me in on title and cover alone, but ended up being a delight to read. The speed of the story is incredible and Theo is a simultaneously relatable and unpredictable narrator.

9. Assassin’s Guide to Love and Treason

This late 2018 read was pure fun, and a great reminder of my love of Shakespeare. Historical fiction-retelling combos are the way to go; the industry should come up with more.

8. Obsidio

It was tough to imagine a finale as strong as Illuminae and Gemina, but this one was somehow better…and not without a few twists along the way.

7. My Plain Jane

This one is another historical-retelling combo, but it gets the higher ranking for the laughs. The Lady Janies know how to compose a witty story, and I want them to keep writing Jane books until the end of time.

6. The Way You Make Me Feel

This light contemporary read had a spunky lead and a unique story. This was by far the funniest book I read this year, and had all different kinds of relationship goals.

5. Sky in the Deep

This standalone Viking fantasy has a special, well-developed story. It also has an amazing enemies-to-lovers element, one of my favorite kind of relationships!

4. Choose Your Own Disaster

This book is set apart from the rest on this list because it is a memoir, and isn’t YA. The “Choose Your Own Adventure” style is inventive, and the storytelling is raw and powerful.

3. Nice Try, Jane Sinner

Reality shows and religious musings can work together. It also has the format of a script, which makes the reading experience quick and engaging.

2. Muse of Nightmares

Strange the Dreamer is beautiful and sweet. The sequel is beautiful and somber. Both are incredible reads, and amongst my favorite books ever read.

1. The Cruel Prince

As you probably guessed by the featured image, this popular fantasy novel was my favorite book of the year. The twists and turns were stunning and undeniably engaging. It made such an impact, the story is still lingering in my mind even a year later. For that reason, The Wicked King is my most anticipated read of 2019.
